Catatan Pendahuluan:

Pacuan kuda di Indonesia bukanlah olah raga yang masih muda. Sejak jaman kolonial Belanda olah raga yang mampu memaksa hormon adrenalin mengalir lebih deras ke darah anda ini sudah sangat digemari. Bedanya adalah aturan perlombaan sekarang jauh lebih baik. Pada dahulu kala pacuan kuda hampir tidak ada peraturan, siapa berani trus diadu. Tanpa peralatan yang memadai bahkan tanpa alas (saddle), tanpa peralatan safety seperti sepatu, helm maupun pakaian yang memadai. Sekarang ini semua diatur agar lomba pacuan kuda menjadi lebih menarik, menjamin keselamatan penunggangnya (jockey), kudanya, maupun para penontonnya.

Namun begitu pacuan kuda secara tradisional dan kolosal itu masih juga bisa kita nikmati di beberapa daerah seperti: P. Sumbawa (NTB), P. Sumba (NTT) dengan jockey anak - anak, P. Madura dengan jockey anak-anak, daerah Pegunungan Gayo Takengon Aceh Tengah dengan jumlah kuda bisa mencapai 300 an (kolosal). Karena sangat menarik, pacuan kuda menjadi obyek wisata yang banyak menghadirkan ribuan penonton dalam satu sampai tiga hari lomba.

Olah raga berkuda di Indonesia bernaung dibawah Persatuan Olah Raga Berkuda Seluruh Indonesia (PORDASI) yang mencakup: Pacuan Kuda (Race), Equestrian (Dressage, Show Jumping), Endurance, Polo.

Pacuan Kuda Indonesia dibawah aturan resmi PORDASI, mempertandingkan kuda-kuda: Sandalwood (lokal asli), Upgrading Lokal dengan Thoroughbred atau disebut Kuda Poni G1, G2, G3, dan G4, serta Kuda Thoroughbred Murni. Track yang dipakai berbentuk OVAL dengan putaran kekanan (searah jarum jam) dengan jarak tempuh: 600 M s/d 2400 M terbagi dalam beberapa kelas tergantung umur dan tinggi punggung kuda.

Horse sports in Indonesia is an old tradition, since the Dutch Colonial era the sport that able to drain your adrenaline hormones into your blood vessels already been very popular. The difference is that in the old days, there is almost no organization rules, whoever ready to race they just go without need any adequate equipment or event without saddle and protector equipment like boot, helmet, costumes etc. Nowadays, horse race sport is managed under a certain rules to make the race becomes more interesting, increasing safety for the jockeys, the horses and also the crowds.

Nevertheless, traditional and colossal horse racing sports are still can be seen in certain areas like: Sumbawa Island (NTB), Sumba Island (NTT) with its young children jockeys, Madura Island also with young children jockeys, Gayo Highland, Takengon Aceh Tengah with almost 300 horses participate in the race. Because of its fantastic, the race becomes tourism object that able to attract thousands people to come in for one up to three days competition.

Indonesian Horse Sport is organized by Indonesian Horse Sport Association called "Persatuan Olah Raga Berkuda Seluruh Indonesia (PORDASI)" which includes "Race", "Equestrian (dressage and Show Jumping), " "Endurance" and "Polo".

Indonesian Horse racing under PORDASI regulation organizing race horse event for Native Sandalwood Pony horse, Grading Up G1, G2, G3 and G4 and also Pure Thoroughbred horse. Track is OVAL shaped with right hand run (clockwise direction). distance is 600M - 2400 M divided into several classes depends on the age and the height of the horses.
